Director's Dig
I remember that shot. It was my team's first home run of the season. Not your classic hit though, rather, it came from a late swing and went over the right field fence. My father arrived the next inning and I recall signaling to him in the stands when playing second base position. The actual ball was never found though, as it landed in a swampy area just over the fence. The team graciously autographed a new ball, pictured above, and presented it to me. Two days later my doorbell rang and it was the coach of the top team in the league, Bouncers Athletic Club. He wanted me on his team and I recall telling him I'd get back to him, then the next day went up to his house which was on my block and thanked him for the opportunity but told him I'd be trying out for my high school team in the fall. "I could have been a contender," as I reflect on Marlon Brando's famous line, but as I was brought up with conservative family values, this kind of gamble wasn't par for the course. Bouncers was a notch below a team from Minnesota, which was a traveling team with kids that played baseball all day and were home-schooled at night. Oh well, but as they say, less than 1% of all who try for pro sports careers actually succeed. The rest are stocking shelves in supermarkets or door-to-door insurance salespeople. Ah, learn from my very own attempt! What lies beneath The Great Blue Hole? RLRH is on tap for its exploration and discovery later this month, and we are taking heed. Too many divers have died in the process. Superstition or science, take your pick. It ranks as the most dangerous diving spot on Earth. Apparently, our preliminary research has found that oxygen is prevented from maintaining proper pressure due to abnormal water pressure changes as depths increase. In short, you cannot calculate and coordinate equipment breathing due to the anomaly. The team will be sure to use caution. Rather than object to the photo above right, I'll simply respond to our webmaster Mary's creation by affirming that it may not get that long by 2034. It's long now, I admit, but I certainly won't be bleaching it blond. Although I have a lady friend who's got a beautiful length of straight black hair down to her knees, sort of like Crystal Gayle used to sport. Absolutely beautiful, in my opinion. Watch out Mary, you may have to edit that image as she may give me ideas of my own!
