Already the forsythia is budding, the daffodils are emerging, and the hyacinth is flowering. I'm not a fan of an early spring, but Mother Nature is the boss. But that old grandma's saying about germs coming up out of the ground upon first warmth is definitely true. Proof positive in all the kids who run around in shorts, only to get sick the next week when the temps turn back to normal. Patience. Talk of the town is a new high-speed railway line cutting across the Midwest, sort of like the Trans Europa Express. Remember that song? I don't know, does anyone consider perhaps limiting development for the sake of preservation? Just last week there was an article in a local newspaper about neighbors complaining of an abandoned 19th century house in their neighborhood, that it was an eyesore and should be knocked down. The house belonged to an author and playwright back in that day, and the current owner lives elsewhere and just let the house alone. Incredible, how people can value cosmetics over historics. Forget focus on the house, how about a newspaper story about loss of perspective? Speaking of, you may find the life of Ulrich von Liechtenstein quite enlightening and perfectly in perspective. Suffice it to say, Eight Minutes with a Medieval Knight (below) showcases a long, lost value system which today's culture can certainly use...at least in that neighborhood above.
